Few things make a better first impression than being prepared. Don’t just wait for your date to give you an idea of where to go, ask! Not only will your date appreciate you asking for her opinion, but you’re more likely to learn more about her interests.
Whatever you end up doing, make sure that your plans are set ahead of time and that you call the day of your date to confirm. If you’re picking her up, give her an extra five minutes to accommodate any last-minute fashion disasters or hair catastrophes.
You’ll enjoy a well-planned evening in which you can spend time getting to know one another and she’ll learn that you are punctual and a master outing planner; it’s a win-win situation!
Money Talks Too Much
We all know that one guy or gal who uses any conversation as an opportunity to talk up their wealth. When a woman is talking about donating to a local charity that means a lot to them and a guy cuts them off to tell them how they donated thousands to Doctors Without Borders or bought shoes for an entire village? That guy. Don’t be that guy.
Your date probably has a reasonable understanding of your financial situation by your attire, and most likely isn’t telling a story from her childhood because of the digits in your bank account. If she is, you’ve already made a bad start. You aren’t trying to buy your date’s affection, nor are you trying to outdo every other diner. Don’t try to flex your checkbook with a $200 dinner and a helicopter ride. Unless of course, you’re a pilot turned gourmet chef (in which case you’re probably also a prince or something similar).
Play It Fast And Loose
Conversation should be the heart of your perfect first date. After all, the best way to learn more about each other is through meaningful conversation. You’re not just trying to learn about your date either; you’re trying to impress and intrigue them.
While you’ll want to ask some basic questions like ‘What do you do for a living?’ and ‘Where are you from?’, you’ll want to spice up the conversation so that your date doesn’t get bored. Try asking questions that get you out of your comfort zone. Not only will more hot-button questions elicit a more personal response, you’ll have the opportunity to agree or disagree, which can spark an entire night of debate.

Just pay attention to the person across from you. Watch for visual cues and body language that tell you what your date is thinking and feeling so it can help steer you past rough topics. This is also a great way to gauge whether your date is interested or not. Paying attention includes mimicry, body language, and eye contact. Notice what your date is drinking and order refills. Compliment their appearance at the beginning and throughout the evening. Don’t overdo it, but make sure that your date knows that he or she is looking fine.
